Subject: [roots] 21 year recall
Here’s a lower molar I treated 21 years ago: (PA radiograph series attached above)
1989: treated the tooth in one visit, did not place the core. Patient was stressed out and had a miscarriage
during this period.
1990: recall patient was still having percussion sensitivity and was aware of the tooth
1991: recalled patient and she was having same symptoms but thought maybe better I mentioned the diffuse
PA radiolucency and suggested PA surgery, and the possibility of a root fracture.
2010 (Today): She came in for another tooth to be treated by my partner (tooth #2) and had a Sirona CT disk
with her. I cut and pasted the images of the CD instead of taking a Kodak. The tooth is still there and feels
perfect. There looks to be some slight PDL space widening of the MB PA area but it could be burn out scatter
from the scan (who knows). It’s just another conditional success case. There is a comment in my notes
from 1991 that she said, I can live with it. This was after I suggested a differential dx including
root fracture and the possible need to perform endo surgery. - Terry
