  Use of two files

From: Mark Dreyer To: ROOTS Sent: Saturday, August 11, 2007 1:05 PM Subject: [roots] 2 files used A while back Dr. Yared posted some of his cases. Since then, he's kindly helped me setup to use his technique. I don't have a feel for it in that I find it works well on every tooth I've tried so far, but the one advantage I've seen is that on some of the less complex curved roots, such as this case, it provides a way to minimize file cost. In this particular case, I used an F2 protaper and a 20/.08 GT...that was it. - Mark
Mark, I could never try to use your technique and expect anywhere close to the same results. When you use fewer instruments/less time-- what is your irrigation protocol and timing? Still leaning, and doing 1,2,3, appointment RCT's(GP)-and enjoying it! - Jim Rathfon Jim, I feel the same about Dr. Yared's ability to use only one file for the majority of cases he does. I've found a few teeth this will work on, but certainly not the majority. As for irrigation, I'm a bleach guy. I try to change out the bleach every one or two file passes. I'll use liquid EDTA towards the end of the case when doing apical scouting with hand files in an effort to get rid of smear layer. Then back to the bleach, then final rinse with alcohol. I'll occasionally use 2% CHX (usually on nasty infected cases when I'm trying to throw everything but the kitchen sink at the various microbes) and I'll also use anolyte if I'm forcefully irrigating in the apical region of a canal with a large diameter apex. (had one bleach accident and that's enough for my career). Mark
