Subject: [roots] Avulsion and luxation
This patient sustained an avulsion of 21 and a luxation of 11 two years prior to the consultation.
21 was stored in milk and replanted 10 minutes after the trauma. He presented with a double sinus tract
and a significant resorption defect on 21. He wanted to save the tooth, in spite of the doubtful prognosis.
I placed Ca(OH2 for 1 month, and then an apical plug of MTA. Composite directly on top of the MTA in a
subsequent visit. Sinus tracts disappeared, and today he returned for a 9 months follow-up. It seems that
healing is taking place, the lesion has diminished in size significantly. I discussed the option of
extrusion of 21 with the referring dentist, in order to gain some gingiva and create a symmetrical
appearance of both central incisors. Most likely 21 has to be restored with a veneer, in order to
rehabilitate the clinical crown shape after the extrusion - Marga
