Dycal barrier

Subject: [roots] Dycal barrier
Last case of the week. I like the dycal barrier on these grossly carious teeth.
It helps the isolation. - Mark
Yep, Dycal is faster than a speedy copper band, more powerful than a loco motive,
and able to leap tall marginal ridges in a single bound. - Terry
So is ultradent blockout material. Syringeable, instantly set via light cure,
stays put, can help stabilize damn and clamp, and a hell of a lot prettier blue
than funky looking dycal. - Gary L Henkel
Whoa. Finally a use for Dycal. - Thanks Mark. Brian Broadwell
As time goes by (or minutes go by) doesn’t the dycal barrier-mass
break into pieces or develops cracks? - Joel
Yes, that does happen on some cases. Usually not within the 15 minutes it takes me
to do the root canal though.....joke folks-LOL
The dycal doesn't stop seepage of gingival fluid adequately, so I usually place a
primary barrier at the gingival such as oraseal caulking, then do the dycal,
and then I have a nice reservoir for my irrigants to be contained. - Mark
Another method that works equally well is to roll a small bead of cavit and
adapt to the most gingival area of the prep. Since cavit sets in presence of
moisture, it would setup in presence of crevicular fluid. Trim it back &
cover it with dycal and flow a layer of blockout resin on top. You have a
strong matrix to work on the tooth without worrying about seepage and
breakage. - ahmad
