Subject: galvanic reaction Date: 2001-03-17 16:44:06 PST would gold crowns in a mouth that also has porcelain to metal crowns cause a galvanic reaction? - Mrsralph Subject: Re: galvanic reaction Date: 2001-03-17 19:08:02 PST If the two metals have a different electrovoltaic potential. I have rarely found this to be a problem though. Most frequently, it is when two dissimilar metals are actually in contact with each other. - Steve WHat if the two differing crowns were side by side and the porcelain started to wear off? Subject: Re: galvanic reaction Date: 2001-03-18 07:00:07 PST Generally, porcelain doesn't wear much in the mouth. It does crack. But because the contact of a pfm crown is almost always in porcelain, there wouldn't be any metal to metal contact. Now, if the whole proximal surface of the pfm crown sheared off and the crown wasn't repaired for enough time for the teeth to drift together, there could be a problem. But who's gonna wait that long? - Steve
