Subject: [roots] For Guy: Why I Don't Take All Comers

Dear Guy, One of the offices in which I work emailed me this x-ray today to see if I would like to do this case -- #29;
the mandibular second premolar. I can see an x-ray wherever I am on my iPhone.

I said, "Thanks, but no thanks." I recommended that the case be referred to Dr. Kim, my favorite endodontist.
Think of it as my stimulus plan for him. I want to make sure he has dinner on his table.

Now, I know that you begin to salivate just looking at this x-ray. Does the name "Pavlov" ring a bell? It's just not
what gets me excited.

Frankly, if I had to treat it, I could. I posted a three-canal premolar I treated last year.The coronal half of this
canal already looks wide enough that I imagine I could even visualize the bifurcation right away under my new microscope.
But I think of how long the case would take, the strong potential for an undesirable result, and the near certainty that
no matter how many canals I would treat, the final x-ray will suggest the presence of some other one. Who needs it?

I'm not Sashi and I'm not Mark Dreyer. But I do have several good qualities, and my self-esteem is simply not
dependent on treating this case. I'm sorry, because I know I'm disappointing you. - Patty
