 Protaper Case

The opinions and photographs within this web page are not ours. Authors have been credited for the individual posts where they are. - www.rxroots.com
Here's a case I did using the just released Protaper files (sold by Tulsa dental). 4 canal, first molar, the files REALLY cut and give a nice final shape. The scary thing is that it only took about 15 minutes to instrument all 4 canals once I had working length. I also placed some Fugi IX in the top few mm of the canals and in the chamber thinking it would provide good protection against microleakage until the patient could return to the GP for the restoration. - Jerry

From: Yosef Nahmias Sent: Monday, April 30, 2001 11:36 PM NICE CASE! SO, do you like them ???
From: Julian Webber Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2001 5:05 PM Guido and boys I read your post regarding Protaper apical size. Check out this article which is going to press on May 1st ( needs a little tweaking ) Ken, you can have this for Oral Health and Roots briefcase As follows with Protaper : The final sizes are 20, 25 and 30 These correspond to the terminus diameter gauged after using the Shaping files Most termial dia are these sizes. ( Green etc) Protaper is a true tapered prep objective designed to give continuity of taper from the guaged terminal diameter back up the prepared canal. If you prep a tad short of this point and want want a larger Trope, Fred, Kerekes and Tronstad style canal then use a profile 04 to increase diameter Remember however that as you will not have true continuity of taper you will not get total hydraulics on the downpack pick up less anatomy and have more sealer shoots ( not puffs ). - Julian
From: Jerry Avillion Sent: Monday, April 30, 2001 11:46 PM I read Julian's article. The finisher files are referred to as: 20/.07 25/.08 30/.09 I understand that the first number is the tip size, but what does the 2nd number refer to? Will any of the analytic autofit gutta percha points fit? What's the taper on a medium gutta percha cone? - Jerry Avillion

From: Yosef Nahmias Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2001 12:48 AM the 07, 08, and 09 are the tapers for the first mm of the files! Did you get a chart at the Tulsa booth showing the different tapers??? If you do not have the chart, let me know and tonite I will look for it and post it!Actually I just found it here in this computer! So here it goes

Chart showing the different tapers
Now, you will notice that the tapers are written down in % rater than our way. This is the way they do it in Europe (is the wrong way though!) Graph by Yosef Nahmias Here is another interesting graph ( I have it in color but at home!)
From: Jerry Avillion Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2001 1:24 AM Thanks. Ok, so when you get the final canal shape, what size taper GP points will fit best? So, if you use the F2 to length, that means you need to get the Sx file down at least 8mm to be able to use a .08 tapered point. Right? Jerry Avillion
