Subject: [roots] Screw-up du jour
I fractured a K3 35/04 in the mesiolingual canal.....:-(
and tried for 1 hour to get it out, but it didn't work......:-(
There was a lot of drainage from the mesials, so I rescheduled the patient in a month.
Today she returned, completely asymptomatic. I gave it another try, with the same procedure
as I used the first visit: Bypassing the fragment with 2 hand files, braiding them around the fragment,
and pull with a hemostat. I was lucky, after a while it came out, see pic.......:-))
I glued it to a sticky pick to take a picture, I felt great.....
My happiness didn't last long, till I saw the final rad.....:-((
Due to my removal procedure, I had ruined the foramen, and ended up with a parallel prep....:-(
and a grossly extruded filling....:-(
In retrospect, I should have used MTA........oh well..............these cases make you humble....Marga
Marga, do you have any feeling for why the K3 broke? - Simon
Not really, but it could have been the usual combination of a multiplanar curve
(MB and ML were confluent) and torsional fatigue.- Marga
Dear Marga, I know quite a few people who should be happy if their good cases looked
like that. Don't worry, it will work. Winfried
I'm betting it will be fine, Marga. - Guy W. Moorman, Jr. DDS
It is all a matter of perspective. From marga’s perspective it was a screw up. From my perspective, it rivals some of
the best work I have ever done. See. 2 different perspectives - gary
