Traumatic accident and avulsion

From: Dr barden To: ROOTS Sent: Friday, May 08, 2009 7:38 PM Subject: [roots] trauma This kid came in yesterday. he is nine years old. he suffered a traumatic accident that resulted in avulsion in october 2008. the tooth was reimplanted within 40 minutes at the emergency room. the tooth was splinted by his pediatric dentist the next morning. the splint was removed 2 weeks later. no additional follow up was done. the tooth tests non-vital. there is very little mobility, and no significant probings. i advised the kids father that we can try and maintain the tooth for as long as possible (hopefully until he's old enough to have it replace, if it needs replacing). i am thinking of trying a pulp revascularization procedure, but am hesitant because the last trauma victim i tried it on lost his tooth. but in that case, the parent was non-complient and broke several appointments. any suggestions? fred, i know you've done tons of these. have you had any success with any with this level of resorption? - Dr Barden

I would try it pronto.....if the resorption fails to be arrested, go to Ca(OH)2. - Fred
